Blue Sky Grey

Since I was in jr. high, I’ve been writing poetry that rhymes.  Of course, as soon as I got my first computer, I looked for every place I could find that published poetry.  One day, someone told me that by writing rhyming poetry, I was showing the world how amateurish and immature I really was.  It was almost enough to cause me to never write another poem again.  However, I decided that my poems were mine to do with as I pleased and if nobody else liked them, oh well.  LOL

This is the poem that I was told wasn’t good enough to be seen in professional poetry circles.  Well, I don’t care as it’s good enough for me.  LOL

Blue Sky Grey

Back before the sky was blue,
I was sure that I loved you.
Before the clouds had floated by,
You turned to me and said good-bye.
I’ve longed for you since that day,
My sky has gone from blue to grey.

I’ve never loved like that since then,
And I’m not sure I will again.
My broken heart is all I own,
And feels as if it’s turned to stone.
You’ve become a world away,
As my sky’s gone from blue to grey.

I miss the way you made me feel,
My soul was not yours to steal.
I wish somehow that you could see,
Just what it is you’ve done to me.
Now that you have gone away,
My blue eyes are turning grey.

  1. When did you write this poem? Was it when you were still in Jr. High / High School? It is really good.

  2. No, I wrote this poem in the late 80’s or early 90’s. I don’t remember, it’s been quite a while back though.

Thank you honey. That really makes me feel good. Now, I can tell that person who told me that my poems weren’t any good to kiss my carcass.

    LOL

  3. What inspired you to write the poem. I have some ideas, but I would love it if you would share what inspired you to write this. It does indeed tell a story and I am not sure if it was based off a personal life lived situation.

  4. I like it a lot…I could never write a poem half as good!

  5. Thanks Matt. For me, this type of poetry just comes out of nowhere. I can’t explain it, but I’ve always had a knack for it.

@ Garry, The inspiration for this poem was due to someone I knew before I was blessed with meeting my husband.

  6. Gotcha! :)
