Okay, I’m Officially Old

This weekend is the annual hoopla here in my little one-horse-hick town.  Each year, the whole town goes all out for the entire weekend.  Beer garden, food vendors, beer garden, teen dance, beer garden, Friday and Saturday night concerts.  Did I mention the beer garden???  That’s pretty much what everyone does during this weekend, but it’s just done with a lot more community pride.  We even have an annual parade.  We have to invite family and friends from other towns to come out and watch, as most of the people who live here in town are actually IN the parade.

Actually, this was the first time in 6 years that I wasn’t in the parade.  Not because I had to work, but because I have finally given up my position with Scouts.  I am no longer the Scout master here in town, nor am I the Cub master for Cub Scouts.  Other than a seat on the committee, I’m out of Scouting.  Now, let me make it clear that I still think Scouting is a wonderful organization for kids.  It did wonders for my son.  I’m just tired and it’s time that someone else took the reigns and added some much needed new ideas.

The weird part is that I’m really not all that into the festivities this year.  I really couldn’t care less.  I didn’t go check out the food vendors, or the craft fair, or anything else.  I really didn’t get a chance to watch the parade, and I couldn’t care less about the beer garden.  This town is so small that I can hear the band at the park while sitting in my bedroom.  Anyway, when they’re actually playing I can hear them.  Apparently there’s a problem with the electricity out there and the band’s mics keep going out.  Personally, I think it’s God’s way of saying, “You’re not that good, give it up”.  And I’m not just saying that to be naughty.  I’m serious.  This band sucks from where I’m sitting.  And if you don’t believe me, ask the 15 dogs in my neighborhood that start to howl every time a certain singer gets up to sing.  Sadly, the dogs are better.

Yeah, when the idea of going out and partying all night sounds too much like work, it’s time to hang it up.  I’d already be in bed except my kid is at the teen dance and I have to go get her when it’s over.  And from what I could tell when I dropped her off, that party was better than the one at the park.  LOL
